About the college

Our practitioners & tutors

师资团队

Teaching at this college is done by practitioners. Every tutor on a clinical programme holds a current practice, and every supervisor in the teaching clinic is qualified, insured and reviewed annually. The college currently lists [5] post-holders across its clinical, teaching and support functions.

Our people

Who you will actually be taught by

A small college means small teaching groups and continuity: the tutor who takes your first practical session is likely to be the one who supervises you in the clinic three years later.

Staff are listed below by function rather than by seniority. Clinical supervision, teaching and administration are different jobs, and the college does not treat one as more important than the others: a clinic that is well run but badly taught, or a programme that is well taught but unsafely supervised, would both be failures.

The college’s executive and organisation chart are set out separately, as is the governance and quality assurance framework that holds all of this to account.

Appointment & checks

How tutors are appointed and checked

Teaching and supervising here is a regulated-feeling job even where the law does not yet regulate it. What follows is the college's policy in outline; the intervals, periods and thresholds marked in gold are placeholders pending confirmation.

Recruitment and shortlisting

Every teaching and clinical post is advertised openly with a written role description and person specification. Shortlisting is carried out by two people against that specification, and the reasons for the decisions are recorded. The college does not appoint by introduction alone, however strong the recommendation.

Verification of qualifications

Original certificates are seen and copies retained for every qualification relied on at application. Qualifications awarded outside the UK are checked for equivalence with [UK ENIC] before appointment. Where a post requires registration or professional membership, that registration is verified with the body itself and re-checked every [12 MONTHS].

Identity, right to work and references

Identity documents and right-to-work evidence are checked in person before any teaching or clinical contact begins. Two references are taken, one of which must be from the most recent employer, and neither may be provided by a relative.

Safeguarding checks

Every member of staff and every volunteer with contact with students or patients undergoes an enhanced DBS check, including a check of the barred lists where the role is eligible. Checks are repeated every [THREE YEARS]. Applicants who have lived or worked abroad for [12 MONTHS] or more in the past five years provide a certificate of good conduct from the relevant country. See the safeguarding & child protection policy.

Teaching observation and probation

All shortlisted teaching applicants deliver an observed session as part of the selection process. New tutors are observed [TWICE] in their first term and again before the end of a probationary period of [12 MONTHS], during which student feedback is reviewed before the appointment is confirmed.

Annual review and continuing development

Every tutor has an annual review with the Director of Education covering teaching, assessment, student feedback and their own development plan, with evidence of at least [XX HOURS] of continuing professional development each year. Clinical supervisors additionally show current clinical practice, current professional indemnity insurance, and take part in the college’s clinical audit.

If a concern is raised

Concerns about a member of teaching or clinical staff are investigated under the college’s staff concerns procedure. A member of staff may be stepped away from teaching or from clinical duties while an investigation is under way, and this is a neutral act rather than a finding. Where a concern meets the threshold for referral to a professional body, the Disclosure and Barring Service or the police, the college refers it. See complaints & appeals.

The same checks apply to visiting lecturers, guest clinicians and anyone supervising students on placement elsewhere. Where a partner organisation hosts our students, we require written confirmation that its staff have been checked to at least this standard.
